Duplex Dog Houses

In our opinion, based on years of customer input, the best duplex dog houses are made out of cedar. A cedar dog house has many natural qualities that makes it the best kind of wood to use to construct outdoor dog houses. For starters cedar can stand up to being outside without staining or sealing the wood. Unlike other wooden dog houses, cedar will change color as it weathers over time acquiring an attractive rustic-style, silver-gray patina.

America's Pet Store carries duplex dog houses in small, medium, large and extra large. So if you want a duplex dog house for two large dogs or for two small dogs you'll find the appropriate size here. Naturally if you have two dogs that are not close in size you will have to either buy separate houses – a small dog house and a large dog house – or choose a duplex dog house that is large enough for your largest dog.

We generally do not recommend big dog houses for small dogs, but this would be a special case. It would be a good idea to come up with a way to make one side "smaller" for your smaller dog. Maybe you could line the walls with big pillows to help reduce the size. Just be sure to leave enough room to allow your dog to stand up and turn around when inside.

In addition to being weatherproof, a cedar wood dog house is also a natural deterrent to fleas and other insects. A cedar roof will also keep these duplex dog houses cooler in the summer than a standard shingled roof. Insulation also helps to keep temperatures down in the summer. All of the cedar homes we carry are insulated dog houses. Of course insulation also helps to keep temperatures warm inside these duplex dog houses in the winter.

Insulation really makes a big difference but if you want more protection from the cold then you can upgrade almost any insulated dog house to a heated dog house. New Age Pet Eco-Concepts dog houses (duplexes not available) are eco-friendly dog houses made from a combination of wood fiber and post-consumer recycled polymers.

Heating options include the Hound Heater Dog House Furnace. This dog house heater is 10 1/2" Tall x 10" Wide and 4 1/2" deep. So it is too big for our smaller duplex dog houses but it will fit in most of the others. Just be sure to take note of the interior dimensions of a dog house if you plan to install a Hound Heater.
