DC-40 Improvements and New Features:
- The Garmin Astro DC-40 collar transmitter is now a self-contained unit with a built-in GPS antenna. This allows you to mount the DC-40 on any collar strap of your choice that is 1" wide. This is a great improvement if you also use a training collar when you hunt because it eliminates the need for your dog to have to wear two separate collars.
- Collar strap: The DC-40 transmitter now comes with a bright orange, polyurethane-coated collar strap that is one inch wide. It's more durable and holds up to repeated exposure to rough conditions. The strap is longer too and fits neck sizes 9" to 22". When you need to replace the strap it's easier to find and more affordable too, because the transmitter will mount to any 1" collar strap of your choice.
- Charging cradle: Garmin's new Astro DC-40 GPS transmitter collar comes with a charging cradle and that is good news. In the previous model the charger plugged directly into the collar transmitter. The charging port on the transmitter would often get filled with mud and other debris. The charging contacts are now flush with the collar transmitter so there is nowhere for dirt to accumulate; just wipe the contacts off if they get dirty.
In addition, the charging system now displays a light to indicate when the transmitter is completely charged. This avoids any guesswork on your part.
- Pin-Lock Security: Now you can select your own 4-digit security code that must be entered on the Astro 220 handheld unit to enable it to track your dog. This prevents unauthorized folks from tracking your dog which is particularly useful during competitive events.
- Update rates: You still have the options of update rates of 5, 10 and 30 seconds, and now there is also a two-minute update rate that will prolong battery life.

Track Dogs in Dense Cover
Astro boasts a high-sensitivity GPS receiver that can track your dog's position even in the densest cover. As often as every five seconds, your dog's DC-40 GPS collar transmits his position to your handheld, and you can see his current location and a trail of where he's been.
This unique system gives you your dog's exact position; the distance away from you; what direction if he's moving; and whether he is running, pointing, treeing or sitting.
You can track up to ten dogs at one time with Astro, at a distance of up to seven miles away (depending on the terrain). The system reaches farthest in flat, open territory. To track more than one dog, just add extra Garmin Astro DC 40 collar transmitters (sold separately).
It Even Counts Your Coveys!
Mark the exact spot where you capture quarry with Astro's Covey Counter, a special waypoint that tells you the exact location, time of day and elevation where you found your prey, as well as the number of birds you flushed and took from that location.
Astro lets you save customized waypoints too, such as "Truck" and "Lodge". There are also special waypoint icons to represent food plots, tree stands and other hunting-related points.
