Infrared Dog Doors

Infrared dog doors were previously a subcategory of electronic or automatic dog doors.  With infrared dog doors, your pet would wear a small pea-sized "key" on its collar that would utilize infrared technology to activate the door as your pet approaches the dog door. 

The most common of the infrared dog doors on the market was the Staywell Infrared Dog Door (model 861) where it provided controlled access (both in and out) of your house for only your pets wearing an infrared collar key.  America's Pet Store witnessed a larger than average return rate on this infrared dog door because the infrared technology did not work properly when the door was placed in direct sunlight.  This led to a larger than normal number of product returns.  America's Pet Store however still offers other non-infrared models of Staywell dog doors.

Infrared dog doors were a lower priced electronic dog door when compared to other electronic dog doors on the market.  If you are looking to purchase an infrared dog door, America's Pet Store recommends the similarly priced PetSafe Electronic SmartDoor dog doors, which come in two sizes, small and large.  These PetSafe dog doors utilize electro-magnetic technology to accomplish the same objectives of pet access control that was desired with the Staywell Infrared dog door.
