In the wild, parakeets are long-distance flyers. This means that they really do need to be let out of the cage every single day in order to fly about a bit. And, to get exercise while in their cage, they should be able to "hop fly" from perch to perch.
We suggest you put some time into researching what to look for in parakeet bird cages. While we offer some basic suggestions here, there are expert information resources online. Or, find an Avian Veterinarian in your area if you haven't already and establish a relationship. Talk with your vet about your parakeet's most important needs.
It's pretty much a guarantee that your vet will tell you that the size, construction materials and the ultimate location are three of the most important decisions you'll make when considering parakeet bird cages. When you think about it, it makes perfect sense. If you spent almost every hour of your entire life in a cage, you'd probably want it to be spacious, clean and made from non-toxic, bird-safe materials. You'd also want it located in an area that doesn't get to drafty, cold or hot. You'd want it just right, right? Well, so do birds.
A word of caution about zinc or lead in parakeet bird cages:
Zinc and lead can be toxic to parakeets and any reputable manufacturer of parakeet bird cages ensures, through independent laboratory testing, that their products are completely non-toxic and bird-safe.
At America's Pet Store we only carry parakeet bird cages that are certified to be non-toxic and bird-safe. The majority of the cages we carry are either made from surgical grade (naturally nontoxic) 304 grade stainless steel or wrought iron steel with a hardened, non-toxic, baked on powder coating.
America’s Pet Store is proud to be an authorized dealer for the following brands of quality bird cages: A&E Bird Cages, Avian Adventures Bird Cages, Featherland Bird Cages, HQ Bird Cages, Innovative Bird Cages, Marvelous Bird Cages, and Prevue Hendryx Bird Cages (also known as Prevue Bird Cages).
We carry hundreds of cages so that our customers will find exactly what they are looking for; from small parakeet bird cages to extra large parrot bird cages to even bigger walk-in bird cages. Prices vary from higher-end to middle-of-the-road to discount bird cages. Keep in mind that industry-wide most decorative brass bird cages are not solid brass; they are usually either brass plated, or have a brass powder coat paint finish.
