Portable Pet Steps and Ramps

Portable pet steps and ramps are for pets "on the go" either going from room to room in your home, or going for a ride with you in your car, truck or SUV. If, for example, your pet will use his or her pet stairs to get up on a couch or chair during the day, and then later in the evening to get up on a bed, you may want to consider a set of stairs that folds, or a ramp that folds or has a telescope design.

Ramps have more flexibility than do portable pet steps when it comes to reaching specific heights. For example, a half ramp that is approximately 40 inches long will work perfectly to help your pet get to places that are from 13" to 18" high. Portable pet steps on the other hand do not offer assistance for quite as wide a range of heights.

You'll need to be more exact when purchasing portable pet steps. Be sure to measure the height of the couch, bed, vehicle entrance, etc. to determine the height your pet will need in a set of portable pet steps.

The top step of the set of stairs, often referred to as the platform, need not be equal in height to the couch, chair or vehicle that your pet needs access to, that is unless your dog is injured or otherwise unable to climb. (But if that is the case you should probably forget about portable pet steps altogether and consider one of our many portable pet ramps instead.)

Generally, for healthy pets, the top step or platform will be high enough if it is shorter than the top of a couch, chair etc. by a distance equal to one step's height. So, if you buy a set of portable pet steps that has 3 steps, and the step-height for each step is 6" (for a total height of 18"), the stairs should work well for your pet to access heights of 24" -- one step-height higher than the total height of the stairs.
